Holding the Whole Story: Older Adults, Homelessness, and the Work We Share

As the population ages, the intersection of housing instability and growing older has created a critical, yet often overlooked, societal crisis. This free, online, 2-hour professional training course equips practitioners, advocates, and policymakers with conceptual frameworks and practical tools to strengthen how we support older adults experiencing homelessness. By centering the lived experiences of older adults and utilizing trauma-informed approaches, learners will move from foundational understanding to holistic approaches to healing and wellbeing.

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to: 

1. Analyze how racism, ageism, and ableism connect to the current trends of homelessness for older adults. 

2. Explain how economic and housing factors connect to the trends of homelessness for older adults. 

3. Illustrate how listening to a person’s story can benefit both listener and narrator. 

4. Apply from ideas related to Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed, or Narrative Care to better support older adults 

5. Identify ways to support self-determination and strengthen community belonging for older adults.
